I love to draw. I sort of love to sketchâ€Ķ that is, I own a sketchbook. I own multiple sketchbooks. Not one of them is fully used up. I love a sketchbook in theory, but I also compulsively demand for myself a fresh start. Clean slate! That, and I tend to sketch out my ideas on scrap paper or right onto the medium I’ll be using.

Sketch more often? Keep my sketches? Life is hard enough and now I have to face this ugly little drawing: reminding myself that I lack serious fundamental talent??

Might be trueâ€Ķ but when some time passes, I also genuinely love to look back at my sketches. I’m a fiend for that gritty look.
In fact, a quick drawing in my sketchbook has been known to become a favorite new print. Sometimes the tentative version of a piece ends up being way more visually interesting than the mapped out work that follows. Sketchbooks are a mind game.

What makes a sketch a sketch and not a work of art itself?
